Local folk-pop specialists The Blue Party are fresh off a tour of the American Midwest and will be headlining a show at Tipitina’s to commemorate successfully making it back to New Orleans. But the performance will be more than just the fun and games that typify a Blue Party, er, party. All the band’s proceeds from the show will be donated to the Alabama Red Cross to benefit the victims of the recent tornado disasters.
The Blue Party’s drummer, Chris Cousins, and guitar/paposse/bouzouki player, George Stathakes, both hail from Alabama, but the band’s ties to the affected area run deeper than that: of all the non-New Orleans markets The Blue Party has visited, they have toured through Tuscaloosa and Birmingham the most, in the process becoming a fixture in the local music scenes of those cities.
The Blue Party will be joined on May 19, 2011 by Royal Teeth, who are also celebrating a homecoming of sorts. The group recently got back in town after spending a few weeks in Charleston, SC working on their debut full-length album. Considering the Kickstarter campaign they set up to press and release the recordings just reached it’s funding goal, there are sure to be plenty of good vibes to go around.
