Live Picks: 05.05.2011 – 05.11.2011 (Jazz Fest Late Night Edition, Pt. 2)

Jazz Fest is here, and it is so wide-ranging and awesome you almost literally cannot go wrong no matter what you end up doing once you reach the Fairgrounds. Barryfest aims to give you a look at what’s going on after the sun sets on Jazz Fest each day.

05.05: Dirty Bourbon River Show + Glasgow + Vox And The Hound – Cafe Prytania

05.06: Quintron and Miss Pussycat + King Louie’s Missing Monuments + Vockah Redu + Glitter Chariot + DJ Pasta – Studio 3

05.07: Rotary Downs + Happy Talk Band – Le Bon Temps Roule

In music, as in life, there is no such thing as a “sure thing”. But if you are looking for as close to a mortal lock for an absolute ripper of a show as you will find in this world, the brilliant combination of two of the originators of the modern New Orleans indie rock scene is a great place to start. Greatest band in the universe Rotary Downs, coming off a scorching set on the first Jazz Fest Saturday, is joining forces with Luke Allen’s seminal alt-country outfit Happy Talk Band to pack the back room of Le Bon Temps Roule with a pair of virtuosic performances of some of the most deftly written songs you will find in this fair city.

It is tough to overlook the Caddywhompus CD release show at Studio 3 taking place on the same evening. In fact, given the absolute tear that band has been on in the past year, there are few valid excuses to miss Caddywhompus that I can think of off the top of my head. This particular show is as close as you will get.

MP3: Rotary Downs: “A Feast In Squalor”

05.08: NOizeFEST – 609 Lesseps St.
